In the first session we usually have an informal chat so that I can get an understanding of why you have come along and what you hope to achieve from your counselling sessions. I'll probably ask you questions such as how long you have been feeling that things aren't right, maybe a particular time or event when things seemed to deteriorate, and why you've chosen to come to counselling now. If you come as a couple I will not be surprised if you both have your own viewpoints about the problems you share. The specific way we work together in ongoing counselling sessions depends on your particular presenting issues and needs. You will also be given a counselling contract that outlines information about how I work.
Yes. Respecting your confidentiality is of the utmost importance. Client personal details are kept separately from session notes and stored securely. I will not disclose any information about you unless it is assessed that there is risk of serious harm to you or others.
Each appointment lasts for 1 hour.
Weekly attendance is most beneficial as it ensures continuity of progress. Some people find that fortnightly sessions fit in better with their life. I will endeavour to be as flexible as possible to meet your needs.
It depends on the complexity of your case: we can agree to work for a limited number of sessions on a specific issue, or you might want to spend time at your own pace to explore personal development. I review regularly to check the progress we are making and ensure that you are achieving what you set out to do and are happy with the way we are working.
Cancellations are free of charge with the following exceptions: Cancellations of less than one working day will incur a full fee charge.
